Hi everyone! This week was all about wedding celebrations as I attended my friends’ ceremony, as well as attending wedding showcases to prepare for my own. Like all brides, we all want to look and feel our best on that special day, and have that glowing skin when walking down the aisle. As a bride-to-be myself, I have been upping my skincare in preparation for the W-Day.
They say a smart skincare routine should be around 12 months before your big day, but it’s okay if you have less time than this as you can still adopt good skincare habits. I really believe that it’s NEVER too late to adopt good skincare habits. For me, it’s all about hydration which is KEY to achieve and maintain clear, healthy and beautiful skin.
Being born in the UK, I have grown up adopting some of the Western skincare routine which I feel is basically cleansing and moisturising (using the odd eye cream and spot treatments here and there), and some of the Asian skincare routine which is more toners, essences, serums and emulsions based. So, today I want to share with you some of my skincare products that I have been using for the past six months to prep for the big day and how I rate them.
Laneige Water Sleeping Mask – This is a Korean brand and I absolutely love this! It has a gel-like consistency and it comes with a tiny plastic spatula for application. I only use a small amount to create a thin layer all over my face and the next morning, my skin feels super soft and I actually look like I’ve had 8 hours sleep. I don’t feel I need to use this every night, more like once a week or whenever I feel I need a hydration boost for my face.
ESPA Optimal Skin Pro Serum – This little gem was a gift from my fiance. I was booked in for a facial and the beautician had used this on me, I had to ask them what it was as I loved how my skin felt and smelt afterwards. The lid has a built-in pipette where you push the button at the top to draw the treatment oil in. I put a couple of drops onto my palm before massaging it onto my face, I like how it doesn’t leave a greasy feel on the skin unlike other serums and creams.
SK-II Facial Treatment Essence – I have been using this essence for quite some time now and it has become a staple in my skincare collection (this bottle is the 2015 Limited Edition). It is a clear liquid made up of vitamins and minerals and my skin feels a lot smoother and I’ve noticed my skin tone has improved a lot. I use this twice a day morning and night, by soaking a cotton wool pad and tapping onto my face. The application guide says you apply it with your hands, but I feel this way is too messy for me. The only slight downside to this is the funny smell which can put people off. I can’t describe it but I eventually got used to it. It is on the pricey side (RRP around £120) but the huge bottle lasts a long time and it looks pretty on your dressing table.
DIORSNOW Perfecting Emulsion – I’ve had this bottle since the start of the year and it claims to brighten your skin by improving skintone, elasticity, radiance and hydration. I still don’t know what to make of it as I haven’t noticed a huge difference on my skin although my skin does feel nicely hydrated. But that’s about it. For the price (about £90 but I got it slightly discounted), I don’t feel it’s worth it when there are other similar emulsions around that do just as well but cost a fraction of the price. The texture and consistency is light but it doesn’t absorb into the skin that well and my skin feels slightly sticky. I would continue to use this but don’t think I’ll buy it again.
Lancôme Génifique Youth Activator – This was my first skin serum a few years ago as I got a sample, and was very surprised how my skin felt afterwards. During the winter my skin gets really dry which makes it difficult to apply my makeup on, so I tried this and didn’t expect much but my skin actually improved after a few applications, in terms of hydration and texture. I now have the 100ml bottle which lasts me for many months.
So that is my current collection and I’m hoping to try out some more over the next six months. I hope you found this useful and comment below if you have any other recommendations for me 🙂
