This is my last month subscribing to Birchbox so I thought I would write my farewell review. When I first joined I gave myself around six months to try it out to see if I liked it, and overall I have enjoyed getting beauty treats each month as it’s really helped widen my knowledge on other products out there. Writing about it now I actually feel quite sad to say goodbye (sniff). Subscribing to Birchbox is a great way to try different things every month – who doesn’t like to receive surprises each month especially when it’s to do with beauty? The sizes are decent, it is definitely great value for money as five treats is only £12 a month. Plus you get additional discounts if you purchase through their website.
So without further ado let’s see what we have…
The box arrived in nice festive red colours. It is different from the usual keepsake boxes that you usually get each month as the box stands upright and lid is removed from the top instead of sliding out it like a drawer.
Inside is a red drawstring bag containing this month’s five treats which I think suits me better than last the last box, the Tatler collaboration . These treats will see you through the New Year Parties.
Ciate London Fierce Flicks Eyeliner in Black (RRP £15) – As a Ciate fan already I was pretty pleased to get this. I like trying out eyeliner pens and this one reminds me of Eyeko’s. It has a precision tip means it is super easy to create the perfect feline flicks. With pens like these I tend to use them by turning the tip on its side to create a thicker and a more intense line. I love the super-black formula as I like my eyeliner to stand out sometimes for that statement look.
LAQA & Co eyelighter in Co-Pilot (£10.50) – When I initially saw this I thought it was an eyeshadow stick. This is actually used for just beneath the brows to really open up your eyes and for me, a little goes a long way. I never really used eyelighter pencils before but they make a huge difference in opening up the eyes and your overall complexion, I even had compliments on how glowing I looked. I have been using this to highlight the cheekbones instead, it gives a beautiful sheen without too much shimmer and it glides on like a dream and is very easy to blend in. This is my favourite item of the month!
LAQA & Co is fast becoming one my favourite makeup brands. It is New York based, and their products look stunning with gold, and colourful packaging. It is young artists that create the beautiful artwork and designs on their packages and a new one is introduced each month – what an amazing concept! This means their work gets seen by so many people and the Artists also get a cut from the profit for every product that is purchased. I can’t wait to try out the rest of their range.
Hoola Zero Tan Lines (RRP £19.50) is an all-over bronzer gel for the face a body. It comes with a cute little sponge mitt which ideal for the face, but I would have thought a larger mitt is better for the body otherwise you could forever be there with a tiny mitt slathering it on…? It claims to be perfect for all skin times however, I do wonder if it will be suitable for my oriental skin… I’m in love with the paler look right now, so I think I will be giving this a try in the new year.
Percy & Reed Perfectly Perfecting Wonder Balm (£18) – I have received Percy and Reed hair products in the past from Birchbox and I love their range. I love their cute packaging, they make ideal gifts for whatever the occasion. This leave-in balm can multi-task by moisturising your hair to ensure it stays shiny and smooth, as well as prepping it before styling. It smells divine too!
Amie Morning Dew Matte Finish Moisturiser (£4.95) is also becoming one of my favourite face moisturisers. This is so light and gives my skin the perfect base before I apply my makeup. I was worried about it not being hydrating enough but it keeps my skin nice and soft throughout the day.
For those of you who haven’t heard of Amie, they do skincare and beauty for sensitive skin. They don’t contain harsh chemicals and are good for those who have oily skin, prone to breakouts or dryness. I already received Amie’s Deep Pore Exfoliating Polish and I love how gentle it is on my skin but still effective. The products are suitable for vegetarians and vegans and are free from paragons. Amie, french for “friend” is really your skin’s best friend (as quoted from their website).
You can find all these products plus more from the brands here. If you wish to subscribe to Birchbox you can do so here but hurry as they currently have a 50% off your first box for a limited time only (meaning it will cost you £5)
