My 8 Best Highlighters

My 8 Best Highlighters

Using a highlighter is the perfect way to add radiance to your complexion. Just because Summer hasn’t arrived yet or you don’t have a tan, it doesn’t mean you can’t get that glow! Highlighters and illuminators are perfect in emphasising the areas where the sun would naturally hit as they add and reflect light to give you that fresh look.

These are the key areas where I apply my highlighter:

  • Under brow bone
  • Across the cheekbones
  • Bridge of nose
  • Cupids bow

I like to get my glow using different formulas such as cream, liquid, powder and stick so here are my eight favourites (in no particular order)…

#1 MAC Strobe Cream £24.50, MAC

This was my first ever strobing/highlighting product years ago and this is my second bottle. It’s still one of the best around and quick to use. I simply dot a small amount on the key areas of my face, then blending it in for that iridescent glow. I love putting this on my cupids bow to give my lips a fuller look. It can also be used as a moisturiser and I sometimes mix a small amount with my foundation to give my dull skin a boost.

#2 Master Strobing Stick £6.99, Boots

I use this straight from the stick over my foundation for an instant glow. It’s lightweight and contains micro-fine pearls that is super easy to blend in with fingertips.

#3 Hourglass Luminous Light Powder £40, Space NK

I find this so luxurious to use and it gives an amazing soft-focus finish, mimicking the appearance of being in soft candlelight. The texture is incredibly fine-milled and soft, so soft in fact that the excess builds up in the compact each time I use it. The overall look is indeed, luminous.

#4 LAQA & Co Eyelighter in Co-Pilot £10.50, LAQA

This is newly added to my top highlighters list. As well as using this under my brow bone and inner corners of the eyes, I’ve been using it to highlight the cheekbones to give a beautiful sheen.

#5 Wonder Glow £38.50, Charlotte Tilbury

This gives a dewy, illuminated look and I use this as a primer before putting on my foundation. It also helps to keep my skin hydrated throughout the day.

#6 Model Co Highlighting Trio £17, Model Co

The trio pot contains a highlighter for the cheekbones, a satin-finish blush for the cheeks, and a bronzer for contouring so it’s a handy compact to carry in your makeup bag for any touch ups throughout the day. I really like how this goes on from a cream to a powder finish. The finish is a subtle shimmer for a flattering look.

#7 Nars Multiple Stick in Copacabana £29, NARS

I’m a big fan of the Multiple Sticks as you can’t go wrong or make any mistakes using them. I also have this in Orgasm, another cult classic. This shade is a beautiful pearl shimmer with a light creamy formula. It’s so easy to use and has a sheer, natural finish. It can also be applied straight from the stick.

#8 Laura Mercier Pink Mosaic Simmer Bloc £33, Selfridges

This is a baked formula with four colours in the palette. It can be used as a whole to give an all-over healthy glow, or use individually to highlight the eyes and cheeks. I also like to apply this onto the inner corners of the eyes to make my eyes appear larger and brighter.

What’s your favourite highlighter?

Hx

Great post! Highlighter is SOOO underrated, it should be up there with mascara and blusher <3. Don't know if you've tried it but Benefit's 'Girl Meets Pearl' is really nice too. Sometimes I will wear it on it's own with just some powder of the top and it looks lovely. Especially if I'm really hungover and have work the next day!

Thank you lovely! I know right? Definitely should be up there. By the way I love your post on your wedding planning, I’m definitely taking some ideas. Congratulations! X
